こだわりのニット製品を世に送り出しているブランド、eleven2ndさまのカタログを作らせていただきました。

今回、色の調整などはもちろんきちんと行っておりますが、目を引くのは全面光沢加工。従来ですと、フィルムを貼るグロスPP加工などが一般的でしたが、加工適性、コスト面、エコなどの観点から、今回は全面LCコート加工を施しました。

LCコートは、ラミコートなどともいわれますが、UV硬化型の樹脂を塗布したのちにフィルムに圧着、UV硬化後フィルムをはがすことで光沢を生じさせる手法です。PPフィルム貼りではないものだとほかにプレスコートがありますが、プレスコートはビニール系の塗料を熱で乾燥させたうえで、金属の圧胴で光沢を出す手法で、熱が絡むため、両面加工は不可能です。今回当初は、キャストコート紙なども候補でしたが、キャストコート紙はインキがのった部分の鏡面光沢は失われるため、諸条件からLCコートをご提案させていただきました。

結果、きれいな鏡面光沢が全面に施された印刷物が出来上がりました。通常のPP貼りのようなフィルムでないので、反りなどの心配なく、安定した光沢のある紙として存在できています。見た目のインパクトも抜群で、ページを繰っていっても統一された鏡面光沢が続いています。

LCコートは、フィルムをはがして光沢を生じさせますが、このフィルムを変えることで、マット調やホログラムパターンを生じさせることも可能です。また、費用は追加でかかりますが、型を作って作業をすることで、部分的に光沢を抜いたりすることもできます。まだまだ可能性を秘めた、特殊加工技術です。

We had the pleasure of producing a catalog for eleven2nd, a brand renowned for bringing carefully crafted knitwear products to the world.

For this project, we of course carried out meticulous color adjustments and other standard print preparations, but the feature that truly stands out is the full-surface gloss finish. Traditionally, gloss PP lamination—where a plastic film is applied to the surface—has been the standard approach. However, considering processing suitability, cost efficiency, and environmental impact, we opted this time for a full-surface LC coating.

LC coating, sometimes referred to as “lami coating,” is a technique in which a UV-curable resin is applied to the printed surface, then laminated with a film under pressure. After UV curing, the film is peeled away, leaving behind a glossy finish. Another alternative to PP film lamination is press coating, but this method involves drying a vinyl-based coating with heat and then creating gloss using a metal pressure cylinder. Because heat is involved, double-sided processing is not possible. At the beginning of this project, cast-coated paper was also considered as an option; however, since cast-coated paper loses its mirror-like gloss in printed areas where ink is applied, we ultimately proposed LC coating based on the overall project requirements.

The result was a beautifully produced printed piece with an even, mirror-like gloss across the entire surface. Unlike conventional PP lamination, LC coating does not leave a film layer on the paper, which means the sheets remain stable without issues such as warping, while still maintaining a rich glossy appearance. The visual impact is exceptional, and the consistent mirror finish continues seamlessly throughout every page.

Although LC coating creates gloss by peeling away the film after curing, changing the type of film used can also produce matte textures or holographic patterns. Additional costs apply, but by creating custom plates for the process, it is also possible to selectively remove gloss from certain areas. It is a special finishing technology that still holds tremendous untapped potential.
