『IMPERIAL LEGACY 帝国ホテルの記憶』を印刷させていただきました。

帝国ホテルの東京の建物の建て替えが進んでいる中、現在の建物の記憶を次世代に繋いでいく試みとして、帝国ホテルより写真家の山岸伸氏に撮影が依頼されました。2021年から撮影を開始し、その一部を2023年から2024年にホテル館内で写真展として展示されたのち、一冊にまとめられたものが今回の写真集です。

撮影された数万点の中から選別された作品は、記録写真的なものはもちろんですが、ホテルスタッフの表情をとらえたものからアーティスティックな写真まで非常に多岐にわたります。こういった写真たちは、ホテルのお客様の想い出とつながり、ホテルの記憶として新たな物語へと紡がれていくことでしょう。

今回色校正時には弊社プリンティングディレクターが実際にホテル現地に足を運び、山岸氏とともに建物内のさまざまな場所をまわりながら、歴史あるホテルのイメージを共有させていただきました。老舗ホテルの重厚感を大切にしながらも重くなりすぎないような方向性で色調整を行い、コストと品質面を両立するために本機校正と簡易校正を織り交ぜて確認していきました。表紙は、豪華な帝国ホテルのイメージに合わせ箔押と写真部分にはツヤ艶加工を施し、雁垂表紙にて仕上げています。

変わりゆく帝国ホテルを記録した本写真集の出来上がりに、山岸氏はじめ帝国ホテルの皆様にも大変満足いただけました。

We had the honor of printing “IMPERIAL LEGACY: Memories of the Imperial Hotel.”

Amid the ongoing reconstruction of the Tokyo Imperial Hotel building, the hotel commissioned photographer Shin Yamagishi to capture the current building as part of an effort to preserve its memories for future generations. Photography began in 2021, and some of the works were exhibited in a photo exhibition held within the hotel from 2023 to 2024. This photo book compiles those images into a single volume.

From tens of thousands of photographs taken, the selected works range widely—from documentary-style shots to artistic photos, including candid portraits of hotel staff. These photographs connect with the memories of hotel guests and will help weave new stories as part of the hotel’s enduring legacy.

During the color proofing process, our printing director personally visited the hotel and toured various locations within the building alongside Mr. Yamagishi. Together, they shared a vision for capturing the historic hotel’s atmosphere. The color adjustment aimed to preserve the dignified ambiance of the long-established hotel while avoiding overly heavy tones. We combined full press proofs with simplified proofs to balance cost and quality effectively.
The cover was finished to reflect the luxurious image of the Imperial Hotel, featuring foil stamping, a glossy coating on the photographic area, and a traditional Kanshi-style flap cover.”The Kanshi-style flap cover is a traditional Japanese bookbinding technique characterized by extended flaps on the front and back covers that fold inward over the book block. These flaps are designed not only to protect the inner pages, but also to create a refined, layered appearance that adds elegance and formality to the overall design. Often used in special editions and art books, the Kanshi-style cover embodies a sense of craftsmanship and understated luxury.”

The completed photo book, documenting the evolving Imperial Hotel, was met with great satisfaction by Mr. Yamagishi and everyone at the hotel.
