山岸伸氏が政財界や芸能界など各界の著名人を2007年から撮影し続け、今日に至る『KAO 日本の顔』シリーズ。撮影人数は累計1,321名に達し、今回は新たに96名もの方々を撮影されています。

当初は中綴じで作成していた図録も、現在はボリュームアップし、100ページのあじろ綴じ仕様へ。今回も山岸氏がそれぞれの人物像を際立たせるシチュエーションで、最高の一瞬を捉えています。

毎年担当している当社のプリンティングディレクターは、撮影当時の状況や現場の裏側まで山岸氏から丁寧にヒアリングを実施。写真一点一点に対する思いや繊細なニュアンスを汲み取り、意図に沿った色調へと調整を重ねます。長年のやり取りで培われた共通の感覚と信頼関係があるからこそ、毎年増えるモデルお一人おひとりの魅力を引き出し、一冊の図録として美しくまとめることができています。

2026年7月に東京・ニューオータニガーデンコートで開催された写真展『顔』のレセプションでは、山岸氏ご本人からモデルの方々や来場者の皆様へ本図録が配布され、今回も山岸氏をはじめ多くの方からご好評をいただきました。

Shin Yamagishi Photography Exhibition “KAO” Exhibition Catalogue

The KAO: Faces of Japan series, launched in 2007, features renowned figures from a wide range of fields, including politics, business, entertainment, and beyond, photographed over the years by Shin Yamagishi. The series has now grown to a total of 1,321 portraits, with 96 new individuals photographed for this latest edition.

Originally produced as a saddle-stitched catalogue, the publication has continued to grow in volume and is now produced as a 100-page section-sewn catalogue. Once again, Yamagishi captures each subject at their finest, carefully selecting settings that bring out the unique character and personality of each individual.

Our printing director, who has been responsible for the project each year, takes the time to speak with Mr. Yamagishi in detail about the circumstances surrounding each shoot and the stories behind the scenes. By understanding the thoughts and intentions behind every photograph, as well as the subtle nuances of each image, we carefully fine-tune the color reproduction to achieve the desired tonal expression.

It is through the shared visual sensibility and trust developed through many years of collaboration that we are able to bring out the individual appeal of each ever-growing cast of subjects and bring them together beautifully in a single catalogue.
At the reception for the KAO photography exhibition, held at New Otani Garden Court in Tokyo in July 2026, copies of the catalogue were presented by Mr. Yamagishi himself to the featured models and guests. As in previous years, the catalogue received warm praise from Mr. Yamagishi and many others.
