新潟県南魚沼市にある、トミオカホワイト美術館さまの画集『生誕１００年記念　富岡惣一郎　白の軌跡』を作成させていただきました。

富岡惣一郎は雪深き新潟県出身の洋画家で、雪国に対する望郷の精神をベースに、白の不思議な美を発見し、表現することを目指しました。目指す作品を制作するために、オリジナルの白油絵の具「トミオカホワイト」や、長大ペインティングナイフなど必要な道具をも自ら開発するところから始め、独自の描画方法と併せて、白の世界を確立させました。

今回は、富岡惣一郎氏の目指した白の世界観を印刷物でも表現するため、ホワイトインキを採用し、カラーの４色と合わせて５色刷りとなっています。「トミオカホワイト」に合わせて作った白インキを先刷りし、そのあとカラーの４色刷りを入れることで、富岡氏の独自の白の世界観を表現しています。

印刷というと通常のカラー印刷の４色で済ませてしまいがちですが、今回は富岡氏の世界観を尊重し、あえて地の色となる白地からこだわりました。おかげで紙の白色の微妙な調整が可能になり、「トミオカホワイト」同様に、インキが紙に載ったという形を実現できています。これも、製造設計の段階から綿密に弊社のプリンティングディレクターも交えて仕様を作り上げていけばこそです。

We have created the art book “100th Anniversary of Tomioka Soichiro’s White Trail” for the Tomioka White Museum of Art in Minamiuonuma City, Niigata Prefecture.

Soichiro Tomioka is a Western-style painter from Niigata Prefecture, which has deep snow.He aimed to discover and express the mysterious beauty of white, based on a nostalgic spirit towards snowy countries. In order to create the works he aimed for, he began by developing his own original white oil paint “Tomioca White” and the necessary tools such as a long painting knife, and by combining this with his own unique drawing method, he established the world of white.

This time, in order to express the world view of white that Soichiro Tomioka was aiming for in printed matter, we have adopted white ink, and combined with the four colors, it is printed in five colors. Mr. Tomioka’s unique world view of white is expressed by first printing with white ink made to match “Tomioka White” and then printing in four colors.

When it comes to printing, we tend to get away with just four colors, but this time we respected Mr. Tomioka’s worldview and chose to use a white background as the background color. Thanks to this, we are able to make subtle adjustments to the white color of the paper, and as with Tomioka White, we were able to achieve the appearance of the ink on the paper. This is only possible if we carefully create specifications in collaboration with our printing director from the manufacturing design stage.
