日本のスポーツアパレル業界を代表する企業、株式会社ゴールドウイン様の75周年記念誌の印刷・製本を、前回60周年に引き続き、やらせていただきました。編集にはガスアズインターフェイスさんが携わっています。

前回の2011年時点から15年が経過し、その分の歴史が新たに書き加えられています。その部分の色味についてもデザイナーさんと作りこんでいきますが、前回にもまして難しいのは昔の写真や商品。歴史が長くなり、何十年も前の本当の色はどれが正しいのかなど、手探りの要素が出てきます。15年前はまだ直接知っている人がいたのが今回は引退されてしまったり、写真に写っている商品のサンプルも全く残っていなかったり、2011年版も引っ張り出して検討も重ねました。やはりこういったところがアーカイブ制作の重要性であり、難しさです。

全体の色調バランスも見ながら、当社プリンティングディレクターがチェックもしつつ、本刷りの時には印刷立ち合いにいらしていただいて、最終確認も印刷している機械の脇でばっちりしていただきました。当社の工場は新宿区の神楽坂にありますから、こういう場合の立ち合いは、お客様も来やすく、大いに喜んでいただけます。印刷立ち合いと言いながら控室に刷本を持ってきて確認していただくような工場もあるのですが、当社のように実際に印刷されているところを見ていただくと、ご安心度が格段に違います。当社の高精細印刷も相まって、最終的な出来としてはクオリティ高いものに仕上がりました。

Goldwin Archives 75th Anniversary 1950-2025

We had the honor of handling the printing and binding for the 75th-anniversary commemorative book of Goldwin Inc., a leader in Japan’s sports apparel industry. This project follows our involvement in their previous 60th-anniversary edition, with editorial production led by GAS AS INTERFACE.

Fifteen years have passed since the 2011 edition, and this new volume incorporates that additional chapter of their history. While we collaborated closely with the designer to refine the color palette for the newer sections, an even greater challenge lay in reproducing the older photographs and vintage products. As a company’s history spans decades, determining the “true” colors of artifacts from the distant past becomes an intricate process of trial and error. Since the previous edition, some individuals with firsthand knowledge of those eras have retired, and physical samples of certain products have vanished. To ensure accuracy, we repeatedly consulted the 2011 edition as a benchmark. This complexity underscores both the difficulty and the vital importance of archival production.

Throughout the process, our Printing Director meticulously monitored the overall tonal balance. During final production, the client visited our facility for a press check, conducting the final sign-off directly at the printing press. Our location in Kagurazaka, Shinjuku, offers excellent accessibility, which our clients greatly appreciate. Unlike facilities where clients wait in a separate room while sheets are brought to them, we invite clients to see the actual printing process firsthand, providing a superior level of transparency and confidence. Combined with our high-definition printing technology, the final result is a publication of exceptional quality.
