インテリアブランド「イデー」の創設者であり、「Farmers Market @UNU」や「みどり荘」「COMMUNE 246」など、時代を先取る様々な「場」を創り出してきた黒﨑輝男氏。2026年3月に惜しまれつつ世を去った氏が遺した言葉と思想を、一冊に編み直したのが、この書籍『Existence』です。
デザイン、建築、農業、地域、食、コミュニティ、平和……暮らしと社会を貫く多角的なテーマから、「これからどう生きるか」「人はどう在るべきか」を問い直す本作。それは、未来へ手渡すための思想の記録であり、「生き方の編集」を試みた一冊でもあります。

■ 邪魔な要素をすべて排除した、文章と向き合うための本文設計
黒﨑氏が書き溜めたブログなどの文章を再構築した本作の主役は、あくまで「文字」です。読者が深く思索に入り込めるよう、余計な意匠は極限まで削ぎ落とされ、本文はスミ1色で構成されています。 用紙には、柔らかな質感と穏やかな光の反射が特徴のクリーム色書籍用紙を採用。ゆったりとした時間のなかで文章と対話できるような設計としました。また、巻末のモノクロ写真はあえて線数を粗く表現することで、どこか記憶の奥に語りかけるような、印象深い視覚効果を演出しています。

■ 挑戦的な用紙と、高難度の「雁垂れ製本」に挑む
静かな本文とは対照的に、表紙にはビビッドなブルーの厚手ファンシーペーパー「キュリアスマター」を採用。折り返しのある「雁垂れ（がんだれ）表紙」とし、タイトルは白箔押しで施しました。一見シンプルでいながら、鮮烈な青と白箔のコントラストが、手にした瞬間に特別な存在感を放ちます。
しかし、この仕様を実現するには高度な製本技術が求められました。キュリアスマターは肉厚で硬質、独特の触感を持つデリケートな紙です。雁垂れ表紙のように大きく折り返す製本では、折り目が裂ける「背割れ」の危険性が極めて高くなります。 当社では、折り線を入れる「筋押し」の深さや圧力を極限まで微調整。一冊一冊が歪みなく、きれいに揃った端正な佇まいとなるよう、熟練の技術と細心の注意を払って仕上げました。
「佇まいの強さ」と「読書体験としての優しさ」が、誠晃印刷の技術によって美しく調和した一冊です。

A Book That Carries Teruo Kurosaki’s Philosophy into the Future — The Quiet Beauty and Bookbinding Mastery Behind Existence
Teruo Kurosaki, founder of the interior brand IDEE and the visionary behind pioneering community spaces such as Farmers Market @ UNU, Midoriso, and COMMUNE 246, left an enduring legacy of ideas and words when he passed away in March 2026. Existence is a carefully curated volume that brings together and re-edits his writings and philosophy into a single book.
Drawing on a wide range of themes—including design, architecture, agriculture, local communities, food, society, and peace—the book invites readers to reconsider fundamental questions: How should we live? and What does it mean to exist as human beings? More than a collection of writings, it serves as a record of ideas intended for future generations and an attempt to “edit a way of life” into book form.

■Text-Centered Design Free from Distractions
Reconstructed from Kurosaki’s accumulated blog posts and essays, the true protagonist of this book is the written word itself. To allow readers to engage deeply with the text, all unnecessary decorative elements were stripped away, and the interior was printed entirely in black ink.
For the text pages, a cream-colored book paper with a soft texture and gentle light reflection was selected, creating an environment conducive to slow, thoughtful reading. The monochrome photographs at the end of the book were intentionally reproduced with a coarse screen pattern, producing a distinctive visual effect that evokes distant memories and lingering reflections.

■Challenging Materials and Advanced Bookbinding Techniques
In contrast to the understated interior, the cover features Curious Matter, a vivid blue heavyweight specialty paper. The book is bound with a traditional gandare (extended flap) cover design, with the title elegantly stamped in white foil. While seemingly simple, the striking contrast between the vibrant blue cover and the white foil creates an immediate and memorable presence in the reader’s hands.
Achieving this specification required advanced bookbinding expertise. Curious Matter is a thick, rigid, and highly tactile paper that demands careful handling. In a binding structure with large fold-backs such as a gandare cover, the risk of cracking along the fold lines is exceptionally high.
To overcome this challenge, Seiko Printing meticulously fine-tuned the depth and pressure of every scoring line. Through the skill of experienced craftsmen and close attention to detail, each copy was produced with precise folds, clean edges, and a refined, distortion-free appearance.
The result is a book in which a powerful physical presence and a gentle, reader-friendly experience are beautifully balanced through Seiko Printing’s craftsmanship.
