日本の伝統文化と美意識を世界に発信すべく、海外でも精力的に活動されている写真家の山口直也氏。今回、山口氏が手掛けた能の写真集『異界よりの使者』の印刷を担当させていただきました。

日本各地の美しい風景をバックに、あでやかな衣装で舞う姿をとらえた写真集。衣装の鮮やかさや非日常感のある能の演舞を再現するために、鮮やかで広い色域を持つブロードインキを使用。写真の迫力を再現すべく適性の高い用紙の選定から始まり、高精細かつ高濃度な印刷を行いました。能楽師と写真家のこだわりを細部に至るまで実現しています。

品質にこだわる一方で、コストの低減策も行っています。振り幅の広い特徴的な写真を8点セレクトして本機校正にて確認・打ち合わせ。そこで方向性を定めたのちに、残りの写真については、その結果を踏まえて当社のプリンティングディレクターがそれぞれの写真の方向性に合わせて画像データの処理を行い、印刷に持ち込むことで、校正費用の削減を図っています。経験の豊富な当社だからこそできるやり方です。

日本国内はもとより、ヨーロッパをはじめとした海外でも販売される予定です。

Naoya Yamaguchi photography book　”Messenger from Another World.”

Naoya Yamaguchi, a photographer who is actively promoting Japan’s traditional culture and aesthetic to the world, has recently collaborated with us for the printing of his Noh photography collection titled “Messenger from Another World.”

This photo book captures the graceful figures dancing in vibrant costumes against the backdrop of beautiful landscapes from across Japan. To faithfully reproduce the vividness of the costumes and the otherworldly atmosphere of the Noh performances, we used Broad Ink with a wide and vivid color gamut. From carefully selecting the most suitable paper to achieve high-definition and high-density printing, we worked to faithfully realize the detailed vision of both the Noh performers and the photographer.

While maintaining a strong commitment to quality, we also implemented cost-saving measures. Eight distinctive photos with a wide range of tones were selected for final proofing and review. After determining the direction during this phase, our printing director processed the image data for the remaining photos according to that direction before printing, reducing proofreading costs. This method is possible only because of our extensive experience.

The book is scheduled to be sold not only in Japan but also overseas, including Europe.
