　作家・野村佐紀子様は、静謐な光と影の揺らぎを通じて、生と死、記憶と時間の境界を見つめ続けてきた写真家です。国内外で評価が高く、人物表現から風景まで、被写体の内側に潜む気配を掬い上げる独自の視線で知られています。

　本書は、2024年にスペイン・グラナダで撮影されたシリーズを中心に構成され、翌年マドリッドのFundación MAPFREで開催された大規模回顧展「Sakiko Nomura: Tender is the Night」にて初公開されました。展覧会は大きな話題を呼び、ヨーロッパ各地を巡回し、野村佐紀子様の国際的評価をさらに押し上げています。また、世界最大級の写真フェア「PARIS PHOTO 2025」での本書の発表により、一層注目を集めました。

　スペイン語のタイトル「Lirio（アイリス／ユリ）」は、死者への供花を意味し、生者と死者をつなぐ象徴として作品世界を深く貫いています。編集・造本設計・出版は造本家・町口覚氏が担当。麻と紙を撚り合わせて織り上げたオリジナル素材「麻の紙布（しふ）」を用いた装丁には、“闇に刻まれた傷が、夜明けへと導く。”というコンセプトが込められ、Scar Edition と Dawn Edition の二種が制作されました。

　印刷においては、オリジナルプリントをドラムスキャナでデータ化し、肉眼でも捉えにくい精緻な暗部のニュアンスを紙面に表現するため、トリプルトーンと階調のあるマットニスを加えた合計4色で表現しています。これにより、重層的で深い黒と柔らかな光が同居する、繊細かつ濃度感豊かな独自の印刷表現が一冊の写真集として立ち上がりました。誠晃印刷ならではの高度な技術が、作品の世界観を一冊の写真集として結実させています。

　日本国内では、東京・吉祥寺の book obscura での刊行記念展（2026年1月29日〜3月2日）を皮切りに、京都、沖縄（絶景社）、名古屋（C7C gallery and shop）、高知（10月）、神戸（THE BOOK END）へと巡回を予定しています。

Photographer Sakiko Nomura has long gazed at the boundaries between life and death, memory and time, through the fluctuation of tranquil light and shadow. Highly acclaimed both in Japan and abroad, she is known for her unique gaze that captures the subtle presence lurking within her subjects, ranging from portraiture to landscapes.

This book is comprised primarily of a series photographed in Granada, Spain, in 2024. These works were first unveiled at the major retrospective Sakiko Nomura: Tender is the Night, held the following year at Fundación MAPFRE in Madrid. The exhibition became a significant topic of conversation, touring across Europe and further elevating Nomura’s international standing. The book garnered even greater attention following its presentation at “PARIS PHOTO 2025,” one of the world’s largest photography fairs.

The Spanish title Lirio (Iris/Lily) signifies flowers offered to the deceased, permeating the world of this work as a symbol connecting the living and the dead. Satoshi Machiguchi served as editor, book designer, and publisher. The binding features a unique original material known as “hemp paper cloth,” woven from twisted hemp and paper strands. Embodied with the concept that “scars carved into the darkness lead to the dawn,” two versions have been produced: the Scar Edition and the Dawn Edition.

Regarding the printing, original prints were digitized using a drum scanner. To faithfully reproduce the exquisite nuances of the shadowed areas—often difficult to capture even with the naked eye—the images are rendered in a total of four colors: a tritone black combined with a gradated matte varnish. This process creates a unique print expression rich in density, where multi-layered, deep blacks coexist with soft light. The advanced technology unique to Seiko Printing has successfully crystallized the artist’s worldview into a single photobook.

In Japan, a commemorative publication exhibition tour is scheduled, starting at book obscura in Kichijoji, Tokyo (January 29 – March 2, 2026), and traveling to Kyoto, Okinawa (Zekkeisha), Nagoya (C7C gallery and shop), Kochi (October), and Kobe (THE BOOK END).
