「思索の旅」をテーマにしたトラベルマガジン、polaris issue03を作成させていただきました。映画や小説のようにデザインされたストーリーではなく、断片的でとりとめのない自分語り人々の何気ない日常の物語（ナラティヴ）収集を通じて、その異なる価値観と原理の中に自分の人生を思索するためのヒントを探す旅の北極星（＝polaris）のようなナビゲーターとなることを目指す雑誌です。今回は、分断の時代である現代において、中央から離れた「辺境」を旅することで、分断され追いやられた人たちの物語をテーマとしています。

さまざまな異なる価値観や原理を表現すべく、ビジュアルも様々に導入され、そのナラティヴの表現がしっかりと伝わるように意図されています。判型もB4判変形と大きく、手に取るだけでその異質感を感じ、開くだけでその迫力に圧倒されます。今号から当社で担当させていただきましたが、プリンティングディレクターも絡んで作り上げる当社の体制にご満足いただけたのではないかと思います。

Polaris Issue 03 — Traveling the Margins: In an Age of Division and Incomprehension

We are pleased to present Polaris Issue 03, a travel magazine built around the theme of “journeys in thought.” Rather than offering neatly designed stories like those found in films or novels, this magazine gathers fragmented, meandering personal narratives and everyday stories of people’s lives. Through this collection of narratives, it seeks to serve as a guiding star—like the Polaris—helping readers find hints for reflecting on their own lives within differing values and principles.

This issue takes as its theme the “margins”—places far from the center—explored in today’s divided world. By traveling to these peripheries, it highlights the stories of those who have been separated and pushed aside.

To capture diverse values and perspectives, the visuals are also varied, carefully designed so that each narrative is powerfully conveyed. The magazine itself is boldly formatted in a large, irregular B4 size: simply holding it in your hands gives a sense of its distinctiveness, and opening it reveals an overwhelming visual presence. Beginning with this issue, we were responsible for the production, and with the involvement of a printing director in our process, we believe readers will be satisfied with the results.
