日本を拠点に活動するドイツ出身の視覚アーティスト、シュテファン・ドッター氏は、Chanel、Dior、 Hermes、Issey Miyakeなどをはじめとした著名な高級ブランドの広告を数多く手がけ、彼の写真はAtmos、British Journal of Photography、Document Journal、T Magazine、Purple、Re-Edition、Vogueなど幅広い出版物に掲載されている、今を時めく世界的アーティストです。 均質性（uniform writing） や ミニマリズム的な形式美、簡潔な美的語彙を持つスタイルが特徴とされます。

2012年、ドッター氏はホワイトリーズ・マガジンを創刊しました。これは、アジア太平洋地域と私たちが西洋と認識している地域との間の文化的かつ視覚的な対話を目的とした雑誌です。現在、同誌の編集長を務め、これまでに11号を発行しています。また、コレクティブベースのクリエイティブ・エージェンシー「ホワイトリーズ・スタジオ」を運営しています。さらに、国連のコンサルタントとして、アフガニスタンの学生に写真を教えています。
本件はデザインをされているJONNY LU STUDIOさんより日本のクオリティの高い印刷会社ということで誠晃印刷にご相談をいただきました。JONNY LU STUDIOさんはロンドンに拠点をおきグローバルな活躍をされています。

「RECORD」はアマゾン、マダガスカル、ボルネオの人と自然を収めた写真を集めた、ドッター氏の渾身の作品です。本人とデザイナーさんとの打ち合わせを何度も重ね、ご意向に沿った写真の色調整を行いました。本番の印刷時には立会にも来ていただきました。
フランス装の表紙（カバー）には半透明のクラフトペーパーを使用し、透け感を活かした大変印象深い構成となっています。最近は、日本のモノづくりは世界からの注目度が高まっています。

特別版は別注の箱に写真集と銀塩の写真が1枚入っていて、ドッター氏の写真の世界観が拡がるものとなっています。

STEFAN DOTTER [RECORD] Photobook
German-born visual artist Stefan Dotter, based in Japan, has created numerous advertising campaigns for prestigious luxury brands such as Chanel, Dior, Hermès, and Issey Miyake. His photography has been featured in a wide range of publications, including Atmos, British Journal of Photography, Document Journal, T Magazine, Purple, Re-Edition, and Vogue, establishing him as one of today’s leading international artists. His work is distinguished by a style characterized by uniformity, minimalist aesthetics, and a concise visual vocabulary.
In 2012, Dotter founded Whitelies Magazine, a publication aimed at fostering cultural and visual dialogue between the Asia-Pacific region and what we recognize as the West. He continues to serve as its Editor-in-Chief and has published 11 issues to date. He also runs the collective-based creative agency Whitelies Studio, and in addition, works as a consultant for the United Nations, where he teaches photography to students in Afghanistan.
This project was brought to Seiko Printing through JONNY LU STUDIO, who highly valued the quality of Japanese printing. JONNY LU STUDIO, based in London, is globally active in the fields of art and design.
“RECORD” is a culmination of Dotter’s work, compiling photographs that capture the relationship between people and nature in the Amazon, Madagascar, and Borneo. Numerous meetings were held between Dotter and the designer to carefully adjust the color tones of the images, ensuring that they reflected his vision. He even attended the final print run to oversee the process in person.
The cover of the book is bound in the French fold style, featuring semi-transparent kraft paper, creating a striking and memorable design through its delicate translucency. In recent years, the craftsmanship of Japanese production has been receiving increasing global attention.
The special edition comes housed in a custom-made box, containing the photobook along with one gelatin silver print, expanding and deepening the immersive world of Dotter’s photography.
