絵画を核としながらも、写真、立体、コラージュ、音、映像、さらには巨大なインスタレーションまで幅広く活躍する日本を代表する現代美術家・大竹伸朗氏の企画展「網膜」が、2025年8月1日から11月24日まで香川県丸亀市猪熊弦一郎現代美術館で開催されました。

廃棄された露光テスト用のポラロイド・フィルムに残された光の痕跡を大きく引き伸ばし、その表面に透明の絵具としてウレタン樹脂を塗布する絵画作品〈網膜〉シリーズに焦点を当て、新作12点や大規模インスタレーションなど、時間と記憶を内包した多様な作品群を紹介。過去最大規模の展覧会として、大竹作品の現在地と今後の展開を示す重要な機会となっています。

弊社では本展の公式図録制作をさせていただきました。プリンティングディレクターが現地・丸亀市猪熊弦一郎現代美術館へ出張校正を行い、300点を超える現物作品を前に、質感や色調を1点1点確認しながらディレクションを実施。本展を象徴するイメージカラーを蛍光イエローの特色インキや特別配合のニスで印刷。見る角度によって多彩な表情を見せる網膜シリーズの作品群を高精細・高濃度印刷技術によって表現しました。

造本設計は、日本を代表する造本家である町口覚氏（MATCH and Company Co., Ltd.）によるもの。大竹伸朗の強烈な視覚世界を書物という物質に結晶化させた一冊となっています。

Product: Shinro Ohtake: Retina Exhibition Catalogue
While rooted in painting, Shinro Ohtake—one of Japan’s leading contemporary artists—works across a vast range of media including photography, sculpture, collage, sound, video, and large-scale installations. His solo exhibition Retina is being held at the Marugame Genichiro-Inokuma Museum of Contemporary Art in Kagawa Prefecture from August 1 to November 24, 2025.
Focusing on Ohtake’s Retina series—paintings created by enlarging traces of light left on discarded Polaroid films used for exposure tests, then coating their surfaces with transparent urethane resin—the exhibition presents twelve new works, a large-scale installation, and many other pieces that embody time and memory. As the largest exhibition of his career to date, it serves as an important opportunity to explore Ohtake’s current artistic position and future direction.
Our company was responsible for producing the official exhibition catalog. The printing director traveled to the Marugame Genichiro-Inokuma Museum of Contemporary Art for on-site proofing, carefully checking the texture and color of over 300 original works one by one. The catalog’s signature image color—fluorescent yellow—was printed using special inks and custom varnishes. With advanced high-resolution and high-density printing techniques, the catalog vividly reproduces the Retina series, whose surfaces reveal shifting expressions depending on the viewing angle.
The book design was created by Satoshi Machiguchi of MATCH and Company Co., Ltd., one of Japan’s foremost book designers. The result is a volume that crystallizes Shinro Ohtake’s striking visual world into a tangible object.
